The Cahors wine is full-bodied and robust with the perfume of red fruits and a tannic taste. It is famous for its dark ruby colour and hence is often referred to as 'Cahors black wine'. Coteaux de Quercy, a somewhat lighter wine, is produced in the hills to the south of Cahors towards Montauban.

Many of the vineyard cellars of the chateaux and domaines around the Lot valley are open for tasting visits. Information is available in local tourist offices.
